To create a U shaped stair

  1. Select the Stair Maker tool.

    The Stair Maker dialog opens.

  2. From the Configuration menu, choose the second icon from the top representing a U shaped stair.

    The Stair Maker dialog displays the specific fields for creating a U shaped stair.

  3. (Optional) Select a family from the Family combo box. The first part belonging to the selected family displays in the Part field, along with a description to the right of the Family field.
  4. (Optional) Select a part from the Part option menu.
  5. Set the Extrusion menu to OpenBuildings Station Designer forms or drawing shapes.
  6. From the Type option menu, choose Closed or Open.
  7. Set the Level to either Default or Active.
  8. Check the Clockwise check box to make the stairs turn in a clockwise direction. Clear the box to make the stairs turn counter clockwise.
  9. Set the Symbology for the form.
  10. Enter the width of each tread into the Tread Width field.
  11. Enter the height of each step’s riser into the Riser Height field.
  12. Enter into the Tread field the measurement of the tread from the front of the step to the riser, not including the nosing.
  13. Enter the total height of the stairs, measuring the positive Y-axis of the total height the stairway spans.

    The fields to the right of Stair Length and Tread Width calculate automatically.

  14. Set the vertical angle of the stairs
  15. In the # Start Risers, enter the number of risers that precede the landing.
  16. Click Place.

    The Place Compound Cell dialog opens.
